I was humbled and honored to be asked to join the ByAnnie 2024 #SewPINK Initiative. Each day during the month of October, visit a lineup of talented and dedicated makers, educators, and shops for a blog hop of inspiration and education, as well as a fundraiser through the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and charity sewing opportunities.
I have a pink-inspired bag I have created for my day on the hop, as well as an opportunity to win a curated bundle of goodies (information at the end of this post), but first let me share with you the #SewPINK calendar of events for 2024. Be sure to join the hop and visit a different host each day.
And now to share with you by pink-inspired project for my day on the hop.
When I sat down to decide what I wanted to create for this project I thought of my loved ones, friends, and families that have been affected by breast cancer; and how I wanted to best support their journey by creating a bag that inspired joy, love, and hope.
There is something incredibly personal about handmade items - bags, quilts, garments - they hold a unique magic because they were crafted out of love with our hands. And for that reason I immediately knew I wanted to feature Homemade, by Tula Pink, a fabric collection that communicates the special connection when creating from our hands and giving to those that we love.
I wanted each detail of the bag to feel like a "hug" - symbols of love and support.
The bag features pink and mint fabrics by Tula Pink, ByAnnie zippers and pulls in Lipstick, pink Busy Fingers "HOMEMADE" ribbon by Renaissance Ribbons, Aurifil 50wt thread in pink #2425, and an awareness ribbon in two shades of pink.
In addition to bringing calm and peace to very stressful circumstances, I also created this bag for the ultimate in functionality - designed to carry items large and small for yourself or a loved one around town, to treatments, or just to share awareness.
Every Day Every Way can hold a small blanket, books or magazines, a journal, snacks, even a change of clothes for an overnight stay. There is an endless amount of pockets in this bag both on the exterior and interior, that can of course be modified to your specific needs and desires.
This bag is designed to be carried in multiple ways - allowing for versatility throughout the day with carrying handles, hands-free optional detachable adjustable shoulder/crossbody strap, or backpack straps that can be tucked away when not in use.
As a special symbol of support and awareness, I added a detachable keyring that doubles as a needle minder or pin cushion for your sewing projects on the go. It is a great conversation starter for breast cancer awareness and can be easily moved from bag to bag. I used the foundation paper pieced Awareness Ribbon pattern graciously available free of charge from Sewfinity - the pattern is available in multiple sizes for a variety of uses.
